Focus, Authors & Calendar

We are insight-driven not news-driven. We track the news as one signal about something interesting, but it is only one signal.

We are global in our mindset and in our experience. Our 6 Authors currently work in 5 different countries and have worked in Asia, America and Europe in the past. Our subscribers come from 130 countries with the geographical breakdown that pretty much tracks GDP.

We have assembled a constellation of stars to share their insights with you.

Each Author is an expert in their domain with lots of work experience to draw upon. We use journalistic techniques and work within an editorial framework, but we are market practitioners not journalists. Like the best journalists, our Authors are “learn it alls, not know it alls” who are constantly on the hunt for new knowledge and insight and fishing for the truth in an ocean of competing promotional views. Unlike journalists, our Authors have “walked a mile in your shoes”. We can add value because we bring the perspective of our work as entrepreneurs, bankers, tech executives, investors and consultants.

Each day of the week is dedicated to a different part of the Fintech story that is covered by a different Author from a different location:

Monday is Ilias Louis Hatzis writing about Blockchain, Bitcoin & Crypto (BBC) from Greece. Ilias is an Internet entrepreneur who started his first company, an internet search engine, in the mid 90s during the dot-com era. Later on he founded several Consumer Internet and AdTech startups and went to work for Google and JWT. As well as still being an active entrepreneur, he mentors startups at the MassChallenge, MITEF and other startup accelerators and competitions. Having lived and worked in America, Ilias is currently back in his native Greece.

Tuesday is Efi Pylarinou writing about WealthTech and Capital Markets. Efi brings bold Wall Street experience (Salomon Brothers, Bankers Trust, SGCowen) in a broad range of asset classes (fixed income, structured products, hedge funds). She has lived and worked in the US, France, Greece, Canada, and Switzerland in investment companies, a university, an online education provider, and an executive consulting firm. She brings a strong academic background combined with a focus on breakthrough results. Efi is the author of Fixed income books with Frank Fabozzi.

Wednesday is Jessica Ellerm writing about Small Business Finance from Australia. In addition to writing for Daily Fintech, Jessica is CEO & Co-Founder of Zuper Superannuation, taking a new approach to superannuation savings. Previously she worked for Australia’s flagship Fintech startup and small business banking provider, Tyro. She is also a well-known expert on digital growth hacking and presents financial news and market updates for Australia’s leading online finance news provider, Finance News Network.

Thursday is Stephen Goldstein writing about Insurtech from America (but with a view to Asia). Stephen is an entrepreneur turned corporate man turned entrepreneur again.  After a few ventures in college which included a cleaning business and healthy fast food restaurant, Stephen found himself in the insurance and financial services industry, and has been there for the past 11 years.  He has mostly been on the distribution side of the business, having been a financial advisor and then a wholesaler in the US, setting up the framework for a distribution force in Eastern Europe and running multiple insurance distribution channels in Southeast Asia.  He has now taken his experience from the insurance side to the insurtech side, working with Pivot Ventures, a launchpad based out of Singapore to connect high impact insurtech startups with insurers and reinsurers in the Asia Pacific region.  Having lived and worked in the US, Dublin, Warsaw, UK and Kuala Lumpur, Stephen has recently relocated back to California.

Friday is Arunkumar Krishnakumar writing about consumer banking and finance. Arun has the experience and global mindset to cover innovation wherever it comes from globally and is equally comfortable in the world of big agile companies as well as scrappy upstarts. His big company experience includes Barclays and PWC. In his current role at Angels Unleashed, StartUp Bootcamp and Funding XChange, Arun works in the world of the scrappy upstart.

Bits don’t stop at borders and neither do our Authors. Our subscribers from 130 countries expect global perspective and the physical newsroom is an artifact of the analog era. So our Authors live and work in Asia, America and Europe. Daily Fintech is decentralized media business born in the digital era.

Each of our Authors is a market expert who can bring value to your company in many ways. Services offered by our Authors varies. We are investors, entrepreneurs, senior executives and advisers/consultants. Each has different experience and skills. You can contact any of our Authors via their LinkedIn profile to initiate a dialogue.

Your Editor and CEO is Bernard Lunn. Bernard is a serial entrepreneur, senior executive, adviser and strategic deal maker. He started in the engine room of Fintech for enterprise software companies (such as Misys, Temenos and ITRS). Bernard is the author of Mindshare to Marketshare and has used his media experience (for example as COO of ReadWriteWeb) to guide Daily Fintech since the first post on 29 June 2014. Bernard is a Brit who has lived in America, Singapore, India, London and Amsterdam and has done business in 40 countries. He currently lives in Switzerland.

Attention is the new gold – but it is hard to define

What is more valuable:

A. 10 people who influence how $ billions are spent?

Or

B. 100 people with no money or influence?

The currency of the web says B is 10x more valuable than A. Our subscribers know that is crazy and we all know that A is more valuable.

Everything we do is designed to protect your time, because that is the one thing we cannot manufacture more of. That respect for your attention drives how we write and what we write about. It also explains why we don’t employ any of the normal tricks to grab your attention – all of them are as annoying as somebody at a party using a megaphone to talk to you.

For PR

Before connecting, please note that we are insight driven not news driven and so press releases don’t usually do much for us.

We want to get to know you outside the pressure of the news cycle when a background briefing may lead to an insight which leads to a post that mentions your company.

We aim to deliver insights from data that is in the public domain. We are not in the scoops business and always respect confidentiality. We aim to find the overlooked but interesting knowledge in the public domain and explain why it is important. So you can safely brief us off the record.

We are in the translation business. We translate Tech for Fin and Fin for Tech. We want Tech people to learn about the nuances and complexities of how financial services work today and for Fin people to learn about the nuances and complexities of new technology.

There are many ways to connect:

  • Find the Author that is most appropriate for your space and connect to them on LinkedIn or Twitter.
  • @ one of Authors or @ DailyFintech in a Tweet.
  • Post directly onto Fintech Genome. Please look at what posts get traction and avoid generic PR as that tends not to get traction.
  • Comment on a relevant post
  • Comment on a relevant thread on Fintech Genome

Please note: we do NOT accept guest post submissions on Daily Fintech.
